The Splendor of February
February in Virginia can be very unpredictable. One week there’s 8 inches of snow covering the ground then the next brings 65 degree sunshine and blue skies. One thing I know for sure, is that if you plant the right things in your garden, in warmer years, it can be the very first sign of early spring.
My personal favorites of these early spring flowers are the deep blue violas, cheerful striped crocus, delicate white snowdrops and beautiful purple hellebores or lenten roses as they’re often known as. These ones are extra special to me because my granny grew them in her garden and gave me some to transplant in my very own garden. They still grow there to this day.

My goal as an artist is to help you create a home that feels like a refuge and a life that is richly connected to nature. I’m also an avid home gardener and love growing my own flowers as a part of my art practice. I love the full cycle of watching things grow, recording them in my sketchbook and through photography and letting those references inspire the art I create.
The final and most exciting step is being able to share this work with you and finding ways that you can enjoy it within your own life.
A Year In The Garden
This year, I’m sharing my art collection called, “A Year In The Garden”, month-by month. I’ve created a beautiful, botanical calendar featuring all of these illustrations and, each month, I’m showcasing the illustration of the month on a small selection of home goods from mugs and tote bags to journals, shirts and more.
